Dance-Pop Icon Jade Starling Named Official Celebrity Spokesperson For National Cancer Awareness Campaign

PRETTY POISON LEAD SINGER-SONGWRITER DONATES USE OF CLASSIC #1 DANCE POP HIT ‘CATCH ME (I'M FALLING)' AS OFFICIAL SONG OF HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB

"Let's catch the spirit of ending breast cancer. It's long overdue."
- Jade Starling

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 15, 2014) – In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, dance pop icon JADE STARLING, best known as the vocalizing half and award-winning songwriter of the platinum-selling duo Pretty Poison and currently enjoying a career resurgence as a Billboard-charting solo artist, has been named Official Celebrity Spokesperson for the national cancer awareness campaign HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB.

In addition to generously offering her time and image, Starling also is donating the use of "Catch Me (I'm Falling)," Pretty Poison's #1 hit dance pop classic, as the official song of the campaign, which raises awareness and money for families battling cancer, brings those families together, and helps them create memories that will last a lifetime. Starling will be making numerous personal appearances and performances supporting HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB, and "Catch Me (I'm Falling)" will be heard wherever the charity has a presence.

Starling is currently charting high on the Billboard Dance charts for the first time since "Catch Me (I'm Falling)" brought Pretty Poison international notoriety. "Think About U," the 2nd single from the flame-tressed diva's new critically acclaimed debut solo album, CAPTIVE (Subpoena/Universal), has cracked the Top 15 on the Billboard Dance chart, the highest position she has experienced on that chart since her No. 1 Dance hit, "When I Look Into Your Eyes," from Pretty Poison's platinum Catch Me, I'm Falling album.

HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB was created by Starling's friend, music industry executive Eric Shipon, who lost his wife, Barb, to breast cancer, leaving him the sole parent of his two teenage daughters, Lexi and Billie. Their story of bonding together to turn their tragedy into positives for countless others in similar situations across the country genuinely resonated with Starling.

"I am deeply touched by what Eric and his daughters are doing," says Starling. "I have friends and family in similar situations, and I just feel that HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB and ‘Catch Me (I'm Falling)' seemed destined to work together. I'm extremely honored to be a part of it."

Starling lost a dear friend last year to cancer. The double irony was that it happened at the same time as Barb's passing. And the wife of Starling's friend also was named Barb.

Shipon describes HAVE A CATCH FOR BARB as "a combination of Alex's Lemonade meets National Night Out, and ultimately envisions Starling "carrying the ball" in the fight against cancer by overseeing a coast-to-coast cross-country "catch," in the spirit of the human chain that symbolized "Hands Across America."

Another goal is for families to go outside on a specific date, at a specific time, for five to 10 minutes, and "Have a Catch," symbolically "tossing cancer aside." At any juncture, "Catch Me (I'm Falling)" can provide the soundtrack.

"My kids and I are so grateful that Jade and her Pretty Poison partner, Whey Cooler, would even consider us," says Shipon. "We couldn't be more fortunate."

Starling's is currently having the great career fortune of charting high on the Billboard Dance charts for the first time in 26 years. "Think About U," the 2nd solo album, CAPTIVE (Subpoena/Universal), has cracked the Top 15 on the Billboard Dance chart, the highest position she has experienced on that chart since her No. 1 Dance hit, "When I Look Into Your Eyes," from Pretty Poison's platinum Catch Me, I'm Falling album.

"We're all connected in the universe, and we're all trying to fight the same battle," says Starling. "Let's catch the spirit of ending cancer. It's long overdue."

DANCE-POP ICON JADE STARLING NOTCHES HIGHEST BILLBOARD DANCE CHART SUCCESS IN 26 YEARS WITH 'MASTERPIECE' 1st SOLO ALBUM

Pretty Poison Lead Singer-Songwriter cracks Top 15 with 'Think About U,' 2nd Single from CAPTIVE

"Now a new generation of club kids can fall in love with singer Jade Starling."

"With the rapidly changing landscape of the music industry, artists are faced with two choices - evolve, or fade away. Jade Starling, of the 80s group Pretty Poison, chose the former, and it's put her right in the middle of today's vibrant EDM scene."
- Arena.com

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 2, 2014) – America loves a comeback, and while this is really a "re-introduction," the fact is this: JADE STARLING, best known as the vocalizing half and award-winning songwriter of the platinum-selling duo Pretty Poison (#1 hit "Catch Me I'm Falling" on Virgin Records), is charting high on the Billboard Dance charts for the first time in 26 years.

More to the point, "Think About U," the 2nd single from the flame-tressed diva's acclaimed debut solo album, CAPTIVE (Subpoena/Universal), has cracked the Top 15 on the Billboard Dance chart. "'Think About U,' hit #14, the highest position Starling has experienced on that chart since her No. 1 Dance hit, "When I Look Into Your Eyes," from Pretty Poison's platinum Catch Me, I'm Falling album.

Indeed, Starling is quite proud of her milestone achievement.

"'Captive,' as a whole, is a very current album," she notes. "And because it was my first solo effort, it was especially important to keep the sound relevant. That's one of the reasons we decided to work with Lee Dagger, who has recently enjoyed No. 1 success on the dance charts. 'Think About U' is a great, well-crafted song, and not only does it fit right in with the EDM movement, but also blends well with the pop sensibilities I've always strived to maintain with my longtime Pretty Poison collaborator, Whey Cooler."

Starling's re-introduction to the dance floors prompted Download.com to proclaim "now a new generation of club kids can fall in love" with her, and Arena.com to note that Starling's decision to "evolve" has "put her right in the middle of today's vibrant EDM scene."

OK!TV, the nationally syndicated entertainment and gossip show, hosted the world premiere of the "Think About U" music video, and hosted Starling as a guest to talk about CAPTIVE and show an exclusive sneak peak clip. CAPTIVE also features collaborations with newcomer Laszlo (Selena Gomez, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj) and French DJ/remixer Franck Dona (Universal France).

"I've been doing what I always do, writing, touring and performing," she insists. "It's not a comeback. We never left. It's just a re-introduction. And this is why it's a Jade Starling record, and not a Pretty Poison record."

PHILADELPHIA (Aug. 11, 2014) – JADE STARLING, best known as the vocalizing half and award-winning songwriter of the platinum-selling duo Pretty Poison (#1 hit "Catch Me I'm Falling" on Virgin Records), TOMORROW releases her acclaimed first-ever solo work, CAPTIVE, hailed as a "masterpiece" by AXS.com (AEG Live), on Subpoena/Universal. Critical buzz continues to mount as the dance-smart album's 2nd single, "Think About U," becomes the second consecutive single to hit the Billboard Dance Chart, bowing this week as the #2 Breakout track.

Starling appears TODAY on OK!TV, the nationally syndicated entertainment and gossip show (check local listings) to talk about CAPTIVE and show an exclusive sneak peak clip from the new "Think About U" music video, shot in and around Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. Watch the TV segment here! The full music video premieres exclusively today on the OK!TV website, www.oktvusa.com. Official video release date is Wednesday, Aug. 13.

ARTISTdirect says Starling's "voice is amazing," on CAPTIVE, while the Trenton (NJ) Times cheers the album's "poppy backbone," "big beats" and "strong groove." Times Square Gossip calls CAPTIVE "a certified smash" and TheImproper.com hailed it "one of the superior releases of 2014" while JoelGausten.com proclaimed it "The Perfect Album. ... Best Dance Album of 2014."

"Think About U," was produced by Lee Dagger of the hugely successful English remix team Bimbo Jones (Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Kylie Minogue). CAPTIVE also features collaborations with newcomer Laszlo (Selena Gomez, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj) and French DJ/remixer Franck Dona (Universal France).

Starling's Summer-Fall 2014 CAPTIVE U.S. Tour continues TONIGHT with a CD RELEASE EVENT in Atlantic City as a special guest of DJ Expo 2014, produced by DJ Times. And in September, Starling returns to Live Nation's Super Freestyle Explosion Tour in Orlando (Sept. 12) and Tampa (Sept. 13), following a wildly successful appearance before 15,000 people on the Los Angeles stop in June. More dates continue to be added. For the latest tour news, check www.jadestarling.com.

Bringing the CAPTIVE theme further into focus, Jade went with Gretchen Johnson Photography inside the historic Eastern State Penitentiary, which once "held captive" some of America's most notorious criminals, including gangster Al Capone and bank robber Willie Sutton, to capture all of the photos for her album cover and the complete album package design.

According to the flame-tressed, Philadelphia-based diva, CAPTIVE, two years in the making, ended in a much different place from where it started. Jade and her long-time partner, keyboardist-producer Whey Cooler, originally intended to create something in the vein of their dance-popping predecessors, released under the Pretty Poison banner. But along the way, they decided to bring in outside collaborators to give their tracks a more contemporary sound.

"This is a dance record," says Jade. "Collaborating with international DJs gave it a fresh new sound, and inspired us to write many new songs."

Not that dance music is new territory for Jade and Whey. "We've been doing electronic music since the beginning of our careers," says Jade. "Now it just has a label – 'EDM.' We're about what's happening next. We've always tried to stay ahead of the curve and not follow it."

Despite its infectious beats, CAPTIVE is about far more than just dance floor grooves. Lyrically, Jade examines the human condition in ways that are instantly relatable and relevant to club kids and everyone else.

"The record takes you on an emotional journey from start to finish," she explains. "From the opening track, 'Everything in the World,' which really sums it up - 'I want it all, I want it now, I want everything in the world' – it covers the gamut of emotions from breakups to falling in love. The new single, 'Think About U,' captures the first time you fall in love, getting back to those pure feelings that you felt."

For Jade and Whey, new material, new sonic partnerships and the desire to reach new audiences meant the old moniker had to go.

"We wanted to put something out that was current and had relevance," Jade reasons. "If it was called 'Pretty Poison,' people may have a preconceived notion. It's still Jade Starling with Whey Cooler and our collaborators. By using my name it's a fresh way of re-introducing myself to the music world. If people make the connection, it's great. If they don't, they should just judge the music on its own merits."

The one thing Jade doesn't want anyone thinking is that CAPTIVE represents some kind of "comeback." She and Whey have pretty much gigged and recorded continuously for more than two decades.

"I've been doing what I always do, writing, touring and performing," she insists. "It's not a comeback. We never left. It's just a re-introduction. And this is why it's a Jade Starling record, and not a Pretty Poison record."

Summer & Fall U.S. Tour Includes CD Release Events in New York and Atlantic City, Plus More Dates on Live Nation’s Super Freestyle Explosion Tour

PHILADELPHIA (July 8, 2014) – JADE STARLING, best known as the vocalizing half of the platinum-selling duo Pretty Poison (#1 hit "Catch Me I'm Falling" on Virgin Records), will release her first-ever solo work, CAPTIVE, Aug. 12, on Subpoena/Universal.
