FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
AMFIBIAN RE-EMERGES FROM
PHISHY WATERS
Phish Lyricist Tom
Marshall Ignites Ever-Changing All-Star Lineup
for Long-Awaited CD,
Limited Number of Special Live Performances in Spring
PRINCETON, NJ
-- After a three-year hiatus, AMFIBIAN, the band that spawned from the
soul of Phish lyricist Tom Marshall, has re-emerged with a long-awaited
new album, FROM THE ETHER, and a handful of very special live
shows to celebrate its arrival.
Marshalls
comfortably unconventional lyrical vision is complemented this time by
co-writer Chris Metaxas's simplistically elegant musical framework and
the blazing hot guitar licks of former Lenny Kravitz and Spin Doctors
collaborator Anthony Krizan, plus the rock-solid rhythm section of
drummer Joe Larsen and bassist Bob Kay. Vermont friends Trey
Anastasio and Seth Yacovone added a little lyrical and musical
nudge. Riding on a melodic center while flirting with a ferociously
evil undercurrent, FROM THE ETHER creeps up from the bottom, only to
pull you under with a poetic yank.
Live, the 2004
edition of AMFIBIAN is a multi-media spectacle will find Marshall abandoning
his usual perch behind the keyboards to assume lead vocal duties, and.Metaxes
assuming all ivory-tickling duties. AMFIBIAN also is traveling with a
three-piece horn section. The Seth Yacovone Band will open all shows.
AMFIBIAN first
rose to the surface in 2000, when Marshall decided to combine his writing
skills with his own musical ability. The first AMFIBIAN project, Amfibian
Tales, was warmly embraced by the Phish community and sold over 3000
copies, primarily on a Northeast tour in which the band sold out such
prestigious venues as the Wetlands in New York, the Middle East in Boston and
Higher Ground in Winooski, VT. But Marshalls other life of job and family
eventually took hold and AMFIBIAN disappeared back into the waters. The group
regenerated in time for FROM THE ETHER to hit the market in February
2004 and sell over 1000 copies in the first month with no promotion.
Undoubtedly
rich with Phishy flavor, FROM THE ETHER is a hard-hitting, solidly
organic rock album full of lush vocal harmonies above music which occasionally
evokes Penny Lane and Sgt. Peppers. At times reminiscent of Steely Dan or
early Pink Floyd, FROM THE ETHER is never ambiguous about its Beatles
influences, peppered with Marshalls unique lyrical viewpoint. He joins
Metaxes to create songs that are poetic, but also identifiable to the common
hard working citizen. Isolate, in particular, expresses the pressures felt
by the daily grind.
AMFIBIANs
return already has been heralded in the April/May issue of Relix
magazine with a 2 -page interview with Marshall. Be sure to catch Amfibian
