SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS RETURN TO ROAD ON "GONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS" TOUR
CHRISTMAS WEEK U.S. TREK - 1ST SINCE ACCLAIMED ROCK SCHOOL FEATURE DOCUMENTARY HIT THEATERS - CELEBRATES HOME DVD RELEASE WITH KIDS FROM 7 EAST COAST BRANCHES
"Paul Green is letting his students in on a secret of life beyond school: Even stuff that looks easy is hard to do well... I'd hand out DVDs of ROCK SCHOOL to everyone in the country with a teaching degree, and dare them to match this level of commitment." - Ken Tucker, NPR's 'Fresh Air'
"'Dynamo' doesn't begin to describe Frank Zappa freak Green, who brings the cream of his crop to Germany to compete in the yearly Zappanale and makes believers of us all." - Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
PHILADELPHIA -- Celebrating the fall DVD release of the internationally acclaimed feature documentary, ROCK SCHOOL, and accelerated openings around the country of the notorious Paul Green School of Rock, THE SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS are spending their Christmas Week break on the "GONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS"
tour through the East and Midwest. The first U.S. trek since ROCK SCHOOL hit the big screen last summer will be comprised of two squads mixed with veteran and newly rising all-stars from all seven East Coast school branches.
Teen guitar prodigy and ROCK SCHOOL featured player C.J. Tywoniak is among those sharing stage time with the expanded group of new and returning All-Stars as they bring the "gift of rock" to concertgoers of all ages by offering greatest classic rock hits - from Zeppelin to Zappa - from local shows held throughout the year at their respective branches.
"We consider the SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS to be the finest collection of young musical ability in the country," says Paul.
Zak Page, the 13-year-old guitar prodigy already being buzzed about as "the Next C.J.," heads a list of "Kids to Watch" on the tour such as: 17-year-old slide guitarist Sara Zimmerman; 15-year-old electric violin phenom Katie Jacobi; crazy 15-year-old keyboard Zack Miller; 17-year-old bassist extraordinaire Courtney Drew; reigning "Shred Master" Courtney Cox; 11-year-old keyboardist-saxophonist David Hopper and 17-year-old guitarist Kenny Lu. The tyrannically tutored teens will be joined on several dates by their "extravagantly voluble, relentlessly belligerent" (New York Times) leader, Paul Green.
THE SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS have played over 100 shows coast to coast, at venues such as B.B. King's in New York City and The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, and have been joined on stage by such legends as Alice Cooper, Jon Anderson, and Eddie Vedder.
The Paul Green School of Rock - the apparent inspiration for the Jack Black full-length hit comedy, School of Rock - is the original performance-based rock music school. Giving students the "gift of rock" since it was founded in Philadelphia in 1998, the Paul Green School of Rock has been rapidly expanding across the nation this year. There are currently schools in 12 locations, including New York, San Francisco, and Austin TX. A February grand opening in Los Angeles tops the next round of expansion in 2006.
Aside from the stages of clubs and theaters coast-to-coast, students from the Paul Green School of Rock have played The Wildflower Festival, The Zappanale Festival (as documented in ROCK SCHOOL), The L.A. Film Festival and the Music Player Live confab in New York City. In January, they will be performing at the NAMM (International Music Products Association) Show in Los Angeles and returning to the Knitting Factory in Hollywood to celebrate the new L.A. school.
ROCK SCHOOL was a hands-down critical smash (3 stars from Roger Ebert!) in which documentarian Don Argott follows the ups and downs of Paul and students of his unique music school, where children ages 9 to 17 learn the ins and outs of rock 'n' roll. Paul Green, the self-proclaimed "überlord," leads his students from practice to performance with not a delicate hand or subtle tone, but the hard-edged screaming sounds of rock and roll itself. Students of all skill levels try to overcome their musical challenges, outside influences, and more importantly, the wrath of Paul, to achieve musical greatness.
