Up-and-coming rock
Paul Greens school of rock
Anyone who loves music also loves discovering new
artists before the Enquirer finds them shoplifting or with drug
addictions. Paul Greens School of Rock is one place to score a
first glimpse of up-and-comers. The School is the original
performance-based rock music school founded in 1998 in Philadelphia,
and its supposedly the inspiration for last years Jack Black film,
too. The kids have played hundreds of concerts over the years, as
the premise of the program is to get students good enough to put
them on stage in front of as many people possible. The kids are
doing a west coast tour17 shows in 16 days. Sounds brutal, but
thats how you prep for rock stardom, I guess. And this is no
recital of fragile tunes for grandmas; the students will execute a
two-hour show of classic rock hits. One kid to watch is CJ, a
14-year-old Eddy Van Halen on guitar.
Monday, August 16, 7:30 p.m. $12.50, Big Easy.
