BAND
JOIN FORCES WITH FANS TO BEAT THE SYSTEM
Grey Eye Glances forms
unique business alliance with ardent following
Here
is some investment advice you will not hear on CNBC: put your money
in
a rock group. Dozens of people have done just that, buying shares in an
unusual band-and-fan venture started by the Philadelphia music group,
Grey Eye Glances.
-
The New York Times
MAPLE SHADE, NJ -- Not content to be just another of the
many bands faced with life after a major label, GREY EYE GLANCES has developed a
pioneering business plan to compete in today's corporate-minded music
industry. A number of "DIY"
stories can be told, but few, if any, have shown the deft combination of
ingenuity and success of the GREY EYE GLANCES approach -- a band/fan
enterprise. The Philadelphia area band formed a company with its fan base,
"The Grey Album, LLC," to record, market, tour and promote its
latest album, A LITTLE VOODOO, released on the band's Sojourn Hills Records
label and distributed by Rykodisc.
Thanks to The Grey Album, LLC, Sojourn Hills Records is
now a fully staffed and operational independent label. This has led to A LITTLE VOODOO being available
nationally through major retail chains and AMAZON.COM; to national radio
airplay, and extensive touring by the band with appearances at retail
outlets, radio stations and nightclubs around the country. Those are opportunities rarely
available to an upstart "indie" record label in today's
competitve "music biz" climate.
Word of GREY EYE GLANCES
ground-breaking business model has quickly begun to attract major
media attention, including feature coverage by The New York Times, Fox TV, CBS Radio News, The Dolans nationally syndicated financial radio program and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
"It's a unique idea," says bassist and vocalist Eric O'Dell, "a band and its fan base joining forces to
produce, manufacture, market, and distribute a music CD."
This fervent support is further exemplified by the fans
purchasing special issued CDs of the band music, which raised close to
$50,000 to help GREY EYE
GLANCES recover the rights to its songs from Mercury Records after the
label had folded.
A LITTLE VOODOO is the culmination of many creative
forces. In addition to the band, the album was helmed by a "Who's
Who" of producers and engineers -- Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann), Kevin
Killen (U2, Elvis Costello, Tori Amos), Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel,
Indigo Girls, Paul McCartney), Todd Vos (Paula Cole, Natalie Merchant,
Phish), Peter Moshay (Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, Sean Lennon/Yoko Ono)
and T-Bone Wolk (Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Eric Clapton, Hall & Oates).
A cohesive collection of songs driven by four-part harmony, infectious
melody and vital rock energy, A
LITTLE VOODOO is GREY EYE GLANCES most accomplished release to
date.
GREY EYE GLANCES features Jennifer Nobel - vocals and
guitar, Dwayne Keith -
keyboards and vocals, Eric O'Dell
- bass and vocals, Brett Kull - guitars and vocals and Paul Ramsey - drums and percussion.
Sojourn Hills Records will be releasing the band's second
single, "Big Red Boat," in January. The release will be supported by a
broad retail/radio promotion program and a national tour.
