FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HUM
MACHINE WORLD RECORD THWARTED
BY HURRICANE ISABEL
GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
ATTEMPT IS NO MORE
FOR HARDEST WORKING INDIE BAND IN SHOW BUSINESS ... BUT THE BAND
INTENDS TO PLAY ON!
MADISON, WI (Sept. 19, 2003) -- Nature took its course -- the wrong
course, that is -- and Hurricane Isabel wound up dampening
Midwestern indie-rock band HUM MACHINE's world record-fueled
celebration of the release of THEOREMS AND COMPOSITIONS OF THE LAST
ACTION ROCKER (Cancer Records.)
The
Madison-based alterna-rockers were aiming for the Guinness Book of
World Records with a 65 consecutive date tour, but on September 18th,
Hurricane Isabel roared into West Springfield, VA, leaving HUM MACHINE
with no power, no water - ultimately no show.
The next night (Friday, Sept. 19), their performance at Jaxx in
Washington, DC was also cancelled due to the swirling storm, thus leaving
the band with a day off, and officially ending their Guinness World Record
attempt.
Did this stop the band from rocking? We think not! After 20
shows, HUM MACHINE intends to continue to rock across America, promoting
their new release, LAST ACTION ROCKER, with their unique brand of
energetic, melodic, indie-rock. The band felt all along, it wasnt
about the record but always about getting their music to the masses.
Lead singer and guitarist T K says, We hit the road hard because
we love to play. Its not about breaking records or about doing
something that no ones ever done before. We take pride in the fact that
it would take something as powerful as a hurricane to keep us from putting
a show on, and even then wed do anything we could to challenge the
storm. Its about fulfilling our desire to play every night on tour.
Long considered the Hardest Working Indie Band in Show Business,
HUM MACHINE had planned to enter the Guinness Book of World Records
by performing the Most Consecutive Shows Played by a Band in the
U.S. -- 65 shows in 65 nights. That's 32 states, 64 cities.
...(they hit Denver, CO twice) until fair Isabel intervened. No wonder the
tour (which began in late August) is being sponsored by AMP Energy Drink!
LAST ACTION ROCKER hits stores on October 7th, 2003 and for the
first time, this inventive and independent band, which has sold more than
5,500 albums on its own, finally has distribution to accompany its
extensive American tour. College radio has already endorsed LAST ACTION
ROCKER with over 80 adds; and the album has remained on a steady
ascent since entering the top CMJ Top 200 chart. Fittingly, LAR was
written on and inspired by -- the road. The songs exude Americana and
roots, while consistently permeating straight-up rock 'n' roll. HUM
MACHINE recorded the album in its own studio, then brought in engineer Mike
Zirkel (Garbage, Everclear, Promise Ring) to mix it at Smart
Studios in Madison.
HUM MACHINE's live show, consistently hailed as one of the best on the
scene, can only be described by only one word -- ENERGY. Tasteful and loud
guitars over crashing drums co-exist with a heavy bottom, strong vocals,
lush harmonies and alter-melodies and emotional, sometimes vague-sometimes
universal lyrics. Fans of Wilco, Ween, Westerberg and Weezer will be more
than satisfied.
THEOREMS AND COMPOSITIONS OF THE LAST ACTION ROCKER is HUM
MACHINE's most ambitious album and tour to date. Find out why
Madison's weekly, Isthmus, says, "This is the real Hum Machine."
