Lou Dog's
current EP, High Speed Secrets anticipates his full-length record 61 Old Depot
due out later in 2003. Possessing some hopeful moments such as "Suspicion
Of Adults (Wanna Be Loved)" and the title song, this sampling may just draw
listeners like moths to the forthcoming release. Lou Dog (who closely
resembles another Lou: Barlow) has a little of that Dirty Boulevard Lou Reed in him
that seems to be resurfacing these days - that just right savory
sickness, coloring his confessionals with tempting tales of dangerous deeds.
Following the ethereally out of place "She's Like The Sea", the
final song
"Why Don't You Call Me" sounds a little like Radiohead sung
through a highway
diner intercom.
This isn't
groundbreaking stuff - you may have in fact heard it before, but Lou Dog with
the tastes represented on this EP seems to know where his bread is buttered.
There is enough gravy on his grits to make a meal.
