Lou Dog High Speed Secrets
(Home Brew Jams)
Comparisons to
the Velvet Underground may come easy when listening toStrangled By The
Same, the opening track on High Speed Secrets. But they would be
inaccurate. While that tracks chord progression might bear a strong
resemblance to Heroin, the delivery is much closer to Roky Ericksons
anguished version of the song than the Velvets original. This is not art
school music.
If there is a
flaw on High Speed Secrets, it is that Dogs lyrics tend to be
cumbersome at times. There is a certain beauty in space and Dog rarely
leaves any. When he does, like on Shes Like The Sea, theresults
are stunning.
A home-grown
recording which alternates between the pop/psych leanings ofearly Pink
Floyd and fuzz drenched primal rock, High Speed Secretsshould appeal to
music fanatics that prefer music created in a garagerather than in Andy
Warhols art factory. It certainly did to me.
