GINA
SCIPIONE SEIZES DESTINY AS CHARMING DEBUT CD, DESTINO,
MAKES SINGER-SONGWRITER-PIANIST ONE TO WATCH IN 2003
"One
of the Delaware Valley's hottest up-and-coming acts. ... (Scipione
writes) insightful, intelligent meditations on relationships and the
human condition (with) accessible melodies." - Courier-Post of
Southern New Jersey
CHERRY
HILL, N.J. -- With the new year starting to unfold, GINA SCIPIONEs
reputation for gracefully intertwining piano and voice to create a unique
mixture of introspective emotion and message continues to gain momentum.
The
Bucks County, Pa., natives debut CD, DESTINO,
was celebrated in Philadelphia with
a packed-room CD release party at the Grape Street Pub, while the album
was proclaimed a charming ... gem by the Philadelphia
Inquirer. DESTINO has also
drawn quick notice from the rest of the Philly areas top print media,
including the Philadelphia Daily
News, Philadelphia City Paper and the
Courier-Post of South Jersey, which proclaimed GINA SCIPIONE (skip-ee-YON)
one of the Delaware Valleys hottest up-and-coming acts.
Outside
of the region, Gina has been called a singer-songwriter with great
promise by Rambles cultural
arts magazine. Comparing Gina to Tori Amos, Chorus and Verse said DESTINO
was like a storybook set to music, while Nefarious
was impressed with the CDs emotional power. During Christmas
Week, Gina emerged on the playlist of Rock & Pop Souffle at WRUW,
Clevelands most powerful college radio station.
As
her visibility on area stages increases, Gina continues to be rewarded for
her ability to connect and enrich her audiences with an alluring honesty
and heartfelt sincerity. She was tapped to kick off the new year opening
for Jeffrey Gaines in January at the 700-seat Whitaker Center for the
Performing Arts in Harrisburg. And
in February, Gina makes her West Coast debut at the prestigious L.A.
nightspot, Genghis Cohen.
Earlier
this fall, Scipione accepted an invitation from the executive director of
AidsWalk Philly 2002 and the Aids Fund staff to perform before 30,000
people at the foot of the Art Museum steps on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
Simultaneously serving as entertainment coordinator for AidsWalk Philly
2002, Gina played Army of Angels
-- an extra special song that does not appear on DESTINO
-- at the request of the AIDS
Fund staff after hearing it at her CD release party. Gina considers
Army of Angels an inspiritation for anyone dealing with illness or
potential loss.
Its
a song I wrote when my brother was gravely ill with Typhoid Fever, and the
only thing left for me to give was my spiritual energy, says Gina. I
put a prayer into the song, and thankfully, he recovered.
Accessible
without compromising integrity, GINA SCIPIONE shares an artistic kinship
with Laura Nyro, Kate Bush and Paula Cole through a dedication to music
that is soulful, sensuous and passionate. Gina
travels through her set list into another dimension, unleashing the
feelings of a woman alive. Her songs range in mood, key, tempo and topic
-- from breaking barriers of ignorance and fear to family relations and
love. Yet no matter how complex the topic, its consistently translated
through Ginas vast compositional skills into a well-crafted listening
experience.
