IT'S A
'NIGHTCAP WORLD' FOR THE SCOLDEES
WITH
LONG-AWAITED SOPHOMORE CD RELEASE
"Just
one listen will tell you that they not only excel at what they do,
but that they have fun doing it." -
FRIDAY MORNING QUARTERBACK
LONG ISLAND,
N.Y. -- Three
years since their widely acclaimed debut CD drew an
overwhelming response throughout the industry, the scoldees are back for a
well-earned nightcap with their sophomore release,
NIGHTCAP WORLD, on their nationally
distributed Off Hour Rockers label.
NIGHTCAP
WORLD, available in stores nationwide Feb. 4, 2003, is the long-awaited
follow-up to the band's 2000 release, My Pathetic Life, and the latest
example of the progressive quartet's diverse musical sensibilities and quirky sense of fun. The scoldees' musical roots
have undoubtedly grown from a hybrid seed,
each song having its own refreshing, distinct clarity and allure.
The songwriting draws from the band's own crossroads of voice, sentiment
and humor to inflect an acoustic sound that is often raw with simplicity,
yet filled with complex emotion.
Nancy,
Jack, JC and Ted tell their tales on the character-driven title track, rendering images that move subtly between fantasy
and reality. The album takes its listeners
from the internal struggle and emotional captivity of "Cocoon"
and "Just Like Rita", to the eternal hope and compassion of
"Better Day" and "Come To
Me." A moving version of the Joni Mitchell classic, "A Case Of You," highlights the warm, expressive
quality of Nancy Sirianni's voice.
The
scoldees are excited to be releasing their CD with national distribution in place for the first time. Wonderful press
coverage in Billboard, FMQB, Album Network,
Pro Sound News, Goldmine, the New York Post, Newsday and beyond,
plus airplay on 92 Top 40 and AAA stations -- 56 of which added the CD to their regular programming over an eight-month
run -- brought the scoldees a national
distribution deal for My Pathetic Life within a year of its
internet release. The album's success helped bring the band to some of the nation's most prestigious stages, including
Woodstock '99, Bethlehem Musikfest (2000
& 2001), The Kerrville Music Festival, The Bottom Line (NYC) and
the Whisky A-Go-Go (LA), plus opening spots in front of Nancy Wilson, John Sebastian and Dan Hicks. Not surprisingly, the
scoldees reassembled the studio team of
producer John Michel (Lee Nestor, Little Blue) and engineer Brian
Harding (Billy Joel, Ray Charles) for NIGHTCAP WORLD.
Special
guest artists include guitarist Jeff Pevar (CPR, Carly Simon) on all tracks, as well as Mario Cruz (Bruce Springsteen,
Joe Cocker) and returning player Richie
Cannata (Billy Joel, Beach Boys) for a tenor sax duet on "Just Like Rita."
The
songs on this CD all tell a story, and by album's end you might feel as if you've just driven cross-country with these guys,
experiencing the same pleasure and pain that
is life. And hopefully, after you've been dropped off, you'll
find your own warm and inviting spot along the road for a comforting nightcap. Cheers.
