Ween's CLAUDE COLEMAN Seizes Power of AMANDLA
to Deliver THE FULL CATASTROPHE
Heralded Drummer Beats Near-Fatal Auto Mishap
to Revive Solo Project as Lead Guitarist-Vocalist
JERSEY CITY, NJ - It took four years, a broken pelvis in six places, debilitating chronic pain and permanent partial-paralysis resulting from brain damage to finish, but Ween drummer CLAUDE COLEMAN has courageously recovered from a near-fatal car accident to proudly deliver THE FULL CATASTROPHE, the stylishly soulful sophomore album from his recurring solo project, AMANDLA.
"It became a completely self-nurturing experience that served to heal me and my life," says Coleman of the long creation and rehabilitation process. "Our lives are but short moments, filled to the brim with many lives' worth of experiences, and that's what is THE FULL CATASTROPHE."
Known for dazzling Ween audiences with his octopus-like drumming style, Coleman showcases the complete breadth of his artistic reach on THE FULL CATASTROPHE as multi-instrumentalist and vocalist. Aside from writing and producing all the music, he once again does all the singing and plays all the instruments. The physical strength required to handle it all has returned with a heightened passion inspired by the music itself.
"THE FULL CATASTROPHE is not a lament nor is it any kind of negative attachment to being alive or anything," says Coleman. "It's a supreme appreciation for the richness of the downs and the ups of the living experience, the tragedies and triumphs."
The music on THE FULL CATASTROPHE ranges from inter-galactic Euro-disco-love romps to pedal steel and violin - pretty much what Coleman likes to hear in a typical days' time. In his vision, it's a sound that reaches "from the farm to the city, to Uranus, then back to the dorm room for a little bit, maybe into the garage with the fellas, back to the city, and ultimately ending up on a picnic blanket underneath a swaying Juniper."
Coleman also produced, engineered and mixed THE FULL CATASTROPHE in a studio he built from the ground up with his own two hands. One needs look no further than the meaning of "Amandla" - "the power" in African Zulu - to explain how he does it all while continuing to record and tour with Ween. Coleman is mounting The Amandla spring and summer tour in support of THE FULL CATASTROPHE between his summer touring dates with Ween.
Talk about seizing the moment
"Our lives are but short moments, filled to the brim with many lives' worth of experiences," says Coleman. "And this is THE FULL CATASTROPHE."

bio
Claude Coleman Jr. is best known as the perversely versatile live/studio drummer for cult-rock gods Ween. For more than 12 years he has commanded audiences around the globe with powerfully dynamic performances that have elevated Ween's status as a live band. His drumming talents also have been well employed by many other artists, including Eagles of Death Metal, Chocolate Genius and Elysian Fields.
A multi-instrumentalist, Coleman also is the singer/songwriter for his own group Amandla and the owner/operator of recording studio J Town Studio, in his resident town of Jersey City, NJ. He has received critical acclaim for his independently released debut record, Falling Alone. On this debut, his multi-instrumental talents shined as he wrote and produced all the music, sang and played all the instruments, as well as produced, engineered, and mixed all but several tracks in his studio hand-built from the ground up; wiring all the patch bays and doing all the fine carpentry down to the speaker stands.
Also active in music education, in 2005 Coleman became actively involved in the Paul Green School of Rock, New York City, where he teaches drums, guitar, bass, vocals and directs the classic-rock themed concerts the students perform throughout the year. In addition, he has facilitated music/songwriting workshops for camp children aged 9 through 16 through the New York City music program Music Ascension.
He is songwriter, recording engineer, producer, teacher, music columnist, graphic/web designer, and carpenter. Above all, he rocks, and nothing - not even a recent near fatal car accident - has kept him from making music and wielding his personal power.
